Michigan BPA policy is that in order for a student to compete at the SLC, they must be a registered and paid hotel guest for a minimum of Friday and Saturday nights.
The only exception is made for students who are also participating in the Michigan DECA Conference. If a student qualifies to attend the Michigan BPA and Michigan DECA state conferences, they can attend both conferences as long as they are a paid conference attendee for both conferences. In addition, students must be aware that event times for a competition will not be changed to accommodate any overlap. They can compete at both conferences if their schedule allows them to do so.
Please be advised that the BPA State Leadership Conference is about more than just competition. Traveling to and from the conference in order to accommodate other non-BPA events is prohibited. Students who are not registered at the hotel for the minimum hotel night requirement or leave the conference prior to the conclusion of the conference will be disqualified from their competition.
The entire conference includes leadership workshops, networking, service projects, general sessions (opening, dinner, and awards), and much more. This applies to ALL students. There should not be any back-and-forth travel because this makes you, your school, and BPA liable if anything unfortunate may happen.
As stated on page 7 of the SLC Registration Booklet, anyone who is registered for the conference and discovers they cannot stay at the hotel for the entire weekend will be eligible for a partial refund only if the Registration Refund Request Form by the registration refund request deadline.
